For an alien dressed like a Roman Centurian, Marvin the Martian has had many a great quip during his years as a member of the Looney Tunes gang.

Marvin the Martian has been around since 1948, having made his first appearance in Haredevil Hare. As his name suggests, Marvin is from the planet Mars and usually seeks to destroy Earth. However, Marvin's plans are usually thwarted by the other Looney Tunes characters, including Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.

Marvin's face is obscured, except for his eyes, so he is a very animated character using body language to show his emotions. This Martian wears a helmet and skirt similar to an ancient Greek or Roman warrior, who would have believed in the war god Mars and would wear a similar outfit. Since his debut, Marvin the Martian has been in several episodes and movies gaining popularity and being one of the most beloved Looney Tunes figures.

Duck Dodgers had been introduced to Marvin the Martian's pet, Gossamer, a tall hairy monster, when Dodgers landed near where Marvin was working in Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24 1/2th Century. Space Cadet Porky chased Gossamer with a pair of clippers, and Marvin "Gossamer is quite nervous about barbers."

It seemed that Marvin wasn't entirely sure why Gossamer reacted so poorly to the clippers either. That is until Space Cadet Porky emerges from Gossamer's home to say that Gossamer was entirely made of hair and a pair of sneakers.

Despite wanting to destroy Earth on several occasions, Marvin the Martian is a relatively easygoing individual. This is especially true when it comes to the assignments that he has been tasked with regarding Earth and its creatures, like the one he had in The Hasty Hare.

Marvin was given the task of capturing an Earth creature and bringing it back to Mars. He spoke to his dog saying, "Isn't that a nice assignment? Hmm." Marvin was happy as long as he was given a task to complete for the advancement of Mars.

Fans of Looney Tunes are familiar with Porky Pig ending the episodes with the traditional "That's all folks." However, Marvin has had his hand at ending episodes as well. Marvin doesn't try to steal Porky's line, instead, he has his own at the end of Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24 1/2th Century.

In his own, over-analytical way, Marvin the Martian ends the show by saying, "Don't worry folks! After all it's only a cartoon." It's similar to Porky, but Marvin has a kind but observant twist to reassure audiences that no one was hurt in the cartoon because it was just that, a cartoon.

In the episode The Hasty Hare, Marvin the Martian goes to Earth to capture Bugs Bunny and bring him back to Mars. When Marvin and his dog, K-9, approach Bugs' home, Bugs assumes they are trick 'r treaters and give them candy but refuses to come with them.

Marvin says, "Oh, Dear. Now I suppose I will have to use force," and proceeds to disintegrate the ground around Bugs' home. The total destruction is so abrupt and funny coming from a small level-headed little creature, and it throws Bugs completely off guard.

During the very quotable episode Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24 1/2th Century, while looking through a telescope at the Earth Marvin says, "Oh, drat these computers. They're so naughty and so complex. I could pinch them." This is a ridiculous statement to come from Marvin the Martian.

An alien with such high-tech instruments should have no issue with computers. Also, a computer can't be naughty, and it can be pinched, but nothing would come from such a small amount of pressure. Not to mention that with all the destructive potential Marvin has, it would be expected that he'd do a bit more than pinching something that aggravates him.

It may seem like Marvin the Martian was doing the Earth a huge favor when he said, "I'm just about to solve Earth's fuel problem" during Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24 1/2th Century Daffy as Duck Dodgers certainly took this to be a good thing at first. However, Marvin then revealed his solution was to blow up the Earth.

Getting rid of the Earth would certainly solve the problem of needing fuel, but it is a tad extreme. Marvin's matter-of-fact delivery of the line makes it hilarious and shows that even though he is small, Marvin is willing to cause massive destruction.

After having just been tricked by Bugs Bunny into flying back to Mars without the hare aboard his ship, Marvin quickly returned to Earth. Marvin ran right up to Bugs and said, "Oh, that wasn't a bit nice. You have made me very angry. Very angry indeed."

Other than a slightly angry tone and the exaggerated huffs and puffs, it was difficult to tell Marvin was angry. However, the words he said were meant to be irate making this little Martian's anger all the funnier in the episode The Hasty Hare.

In Mad as a Mars Hare, there is a hilarious line, that is also a reflection of humans in general, said by Marvin the Martian as he was observing life on Earth. Marvin said humans were his favorite insects and that, "there is a growing tendency to think of man as a rational thinking being, which is absurd."

While we humans tend to think that we are advanced and rational beings, Marvin sees us as little more than insects. This line is funny because it knocks humans down a notch, especially since Marvin's plans are usually ruined by a rabbit.

During the events of the original Space Jam with Michael Jordan, most of the Looney Tunes team had been injured by the Monstars. Seeming to only have four players, Marvin the Martian, as the referee, informs Jordan, "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Your Airness, but if you don't find a fifth player, your team will forfeit the game."

Having Marvin ref the game is in itself funny because he is an alien. However, the part that really makes this encounter hilarious is that Marvin refers to Michael Jordan as "Your Airness", like it is a royal title.

Perhaps Marvin the Martian's most popular line in all media is "Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering kaboom!" In Hare-Way to the Stars after placing an "Illudium Q-36 Space Modulator," which looked like a simple stick of dynamite, in his device, Marvin expected it to blow up the Earth.

Unfortunately for the hilarious alien, Bugs snuffed out the fuse of the space modulator and removed it from the telescope. This event set the rivalry between Marvin the Martian and Bugs Bunny in motion and has been duplicated time and time again with poor Marvin always on the losing end.
