With a central tivusat, hotels, communities and condominiums can not care about digital terrestrial |DDay.it

In an article a few weeks ago, we faced the possibility of "not caring" about the digital terrestrial switch-off, relying on Tivùsat. And to do this not only by using a decoder or a CAM in the main TV at home, but by migrating the entire home antenna distribution to the satellite signal, using single cable standards (SCR or dCSS).It is certainly a functional and functional solution, but which gradually loses its economic sense as the number of TVs involved grows: for each one a tivùsat decoder or a tivùsat CAM must be purchased. As promised, again with the help of Ruggiero Digiorgio, Auriga's product manager, we are now going to consider the so-called "centralized" solution, that is, one that tunes upstream a certain number of tivùsat channels and then redistributes them in "reconstructed" digital terrestrial existing antenna infrastructure, thus using the tuner integrated into the TV without the need for anything else.A solution of this type could be adopted, why not, even in a large house, but, given the price range (starting around 2000 euros), it obviously lends itself to important systems and is actually designed for example for hotels or by community. But obviously, nothing prevents you from opting for a situation of this type in a condominium context, so as to redistribute on the terrestrial antenna all the channels that satellite offers today and that perhaps, in that quality and in that variety, will never be available. neither in DVB-T than in DVB-T2.What is the idea behind such an intervention?Well, use the tuner that all TVs have, the digital terrestrial one, and decode the upstream channels, thus avoiding the need to have a CAM for each TV.A solution of this type is "legal" and permitted and was created above all to meet the needs of small and medium-sized hotels, which can thus with one intervention only serve all the TVs in the structure with all the main channels, intervening only in the central unit and without touching neither the TV park nor the antenna system. The satellite channels tuned at the central level are then reshaped on the antenna signal, which is certainly not problematic given that space abounds: you can reuse the frequencies that the TV has already given to telephony, the 800 MHz band and, in a few months , even the 700 MHz band. The intervention starts from the modification, if necessary, of the LNB, the illuminator of the parabola: "The tivusat Terra power plants that we use - explains Ruggiero Digiorgio, Auriga product manager - receive the satellite signal on a single dCSS cable, so as to do not require, in the transition from digital terrestrial to satellite, not even the change of the wiring from roof to control unit ".The control unit is modular - in the most literal sense of the term, it is made up of modules - and depending on the needs, different elements can be placed side by side to achieve the desired performance. In the main module, the DVB-S / DVB-T transmodulator, there are two slots for as many CAMs."The principle of decoding channels remains the same as for domestic tivùsat decoders - explains Digiorgio - with the tivusat card inserted in a CAM. However, it is a professional CAM, capable of decoding 5 channels at the same time".For this reason, depending on the number of channels that you want to distribute on digital terrestrial, you have to combine several CAMs and therefore also different modules. As we said, each module, remaining in the Terra catalog, houses two of these CAMs and is therefore capable of decoding up to 10 channels. The decoded channels can then be reorganized on different multiplexes recreating a digital terrestrial transmission: each module is able to generate two digital terrestrial multiplexes, for a total band of up to 30 mbit / sec each. The choice of how to combine the different channels, also in consideration of the bitrates usually used by the broadcasters, is strategic for optimizing the system. In fact, there is no re-coding at the central level, but simply the passage of the flow as it is from satellite to digital terrestrial, therefore without any qualitative decrease."The convenient thing - Digiorgio tells us - is that all the configuration of the control panel is done via the browser. You decide how to reunify the channels and assign the LCN number to each one, thus making tuning on all the channels very effective and uniform. TV, regardless of how the channels are grouped, since the position on which the channels will be stored on the TVs will simply depend on the LCN numbering assigned to the single channel ".This means that, in essence, the hotel manager (or the condominium administrator) can decide where to place their channels, perhaps at a numbering compatible with other channels broadcast on digital terrestrial: "Why not - says Digiorgio. -: this solution may not even be a totally substitute for digital terrestrial, but combined with digital terrestrial to enrich the offer, especially in areas where the reception of digital terrestrial is not flawless, or where, for example, only certain channels are received. digital terrestrial. Here the centralized tivùsat solution is perfect for adding to the channels receivable from the antenna, only the 'missing' ones, remodeled by satellite and put back in the same LCN positions ".We come to the prices: as we said, a solution with power supply, a transmodulator, two CAMs and an LNB has a cost of around 2000 euros."We, just to simplify this solution - explains Digiorgio - we have also created preconfigured packages: for example, with one element we propose the reception and remodeling on the antenna cable of the main RAI, Mediaset and La7, for a total of 13 channels ( three of which are in the clear and therefore do not commit the CAM, ed) ".Then there are other preconfigured packages, up to three modules and 24 total channels, almost all HD: in the latter case, the price is almost tripled. But the intervention is still very convenient compared to the hypothesis, for example in a hotel, of retrofitting dozens of TVs due to the switch-off of digital terrestrial. It should be remembered that, in any case, to receive the HD channels of tivùsat, which will soon be the "standard" for tivùsat, on the DVB-T tuners of the TVs of a system, the latter must be compatible at least with DVB-T signals. MPEG-4.In the case of hotels or structures that for many years have not adapted their TV fleet with only MPEG-2 SD or even analogue devices, it will still be necessary to adapt the televisions, replacing them or, alternatively, adding a small external decoder, perhaps those very small retro-TV and with a single remote control capable of controlling the TV too (thus solving the problems of having a visible external decoder and using two remote controls). The choice in this sense today is quite wide.At the moment, unfortunately, it is not possible to insert 4k channels in the multiplexes modulated on the antenna system, since the CAM Pro used by the control units are not yet compatible with these transmissions. To the channels that require decoding, such as the tivusat ones, a series of free satellite channels can also be added, always remaining in the same system: "The thing is even simpler and less expensive - explains Digiorgio - since there is no need for decoding and CAM ".The channels, especially international, broadcast via free-to-air satellite are many and often very interesting, especially for the foreign clientele of the hotels;but also - why not - for the Italian public more and more at ease with English and the main foreign languages. In the case of hotels, then, for example, you can add a specific channel with the classic internal promotional programming: "To do this, just add a modulator with HDMI input that creates a DVB-T multiplex - concludes Ruggiero Digiorgio -: the content that arrives on this HDMI input in the control panel it is distributed on the antenna cable, also with a specific LCN numbering compatible with the channel plan already done ".Copyright © 2022 DDay.it - Scripta Manent publishing services srl - All rights reserved - VAT number 11967100154
